Grain silo at Yuengling Beer Company

A barrel of beer takes about 60 pounds (27 kg) of grain. A 100,000 barrel brewery would use about 60 tons of grain each week. This much grain occupies about 3000 cubic feet (85 cubic meters). A silo 10 feet (3 meters) in diameter that held a week’s supply would be 38 feet (12 meters) tall.
